Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony will both star in a movie about Puerto Rican singer Hector Lavoe, Reuters reports. The film is entitled El Cantante (The Singer).

Lavoe rose to become one of the great voices of salsa in New York at the height of the genre’s popularity in the 1970s. As salsa’s popularity declined in the 1980s, the singer’s health declined due to drug and alcohol abuse. He attempted suicide by jumping from a 10-story building and survived. Lavoe died in 1993.

Anthony will portray Lavoe while Lopez will play his wife, Puchi.

Filming has already begun in New York and the film is scheduled for release sometime next year.
