John Turturro will distribute his movie Romance and Cigarettes with his own money, after it was dropped as a result of a studio takeover.

The musical was made in 2004, but before it could be released, MGM was bought by a consortium headed by Sony in 2005.

A source now claims that Turturro has secured the distribution to the rights to the film, which will be shown at New York's Film Forum from Sept 7.
