The Dark Knight has made a record-making US$66 million on its first day of release in the US, toppling previous record holder Spider-Man 3, which made US$59 million.

The new Batman movie is also set for a US$155 million opening weekend, which will also defeat Spider-Man 3’s previous US$151 million.

The Dark Knight is the second Batman film for actor Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan.
