From zero to hero
By SHEELA CHANDRAN
All it takes is a jolt of electricity to change the life of a private investigator in TV series Kaber Hero Kaber Zero.
Mention super heroes and Batman, Superman or Wolverine of X-Men fame would come to mind. When we talk of action heroes, many will remember Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man, Hulk and Fantastic Four. With so many fantastic characters around, it is not surprising that TV3 has decided to air an action-comedy series about a local superhero.
Kaber Hero Kaber Zero is about the zany adventures of Kaber (Zul Yahya), a private investigator with super powers.
The cheerful Kaber works for a private investigation company, Agensi Cari-Cari Sdn Bhd in Sintok, Kedah. Although he is hardworking and dedicated, Kaber constantly faces job hazards that deter him from completing his assignments.
Boss Zarul (Mohd Nor Bon) is unhappy with Kaber’s performance. To make matters worse, his envious colleague, Jiman (Fizz Fairuz), is always making life difficult for him.

During an assignment, Kaber is caught by a group of drug dealers who throws him into a faulty refrigerator. The poor guy gets an electric shock and suddenly finds himself having the ability to leap off tall buildings, run at high speed and even walk through walls.
With new-found powers, come responsibilities, naturally.
“Many may wonder why the title, Kaber Hero Kaber Zero, was chosen. The series is about ‘hero’ Kaber who works as a private eye. At times, he doesn’t use his intelligence, hence ‘zero’ for that,” said producer J.S. Foo during the launch of the 13-episode series at TV3’s headquarters at Sri Pentas, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, recently.
“There is a different plot and storyline each week, making the series interesting for viewers of different age groups.”
The series is Asia Media Content Sdn Bhd’s first attempt at producing an action-comedy.
Versatile actor and show host Zul admits it is a challenge playing the lead character.
“This is my first role as an action-comedian. Being a comedian is a challenge as I have to make viewers laugh. Playing Kaber involves a lot of research and working closely with other actors.
“I have been working on all the action sequence and stunts, which is a feat because I have to act out difficult scenes that are dangerous.
“Computer generated images are also used to give the series a better feel,” said Zul, whose works include theatre plays Bukit Kepong and Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! and telemovie Qana’ah.
“It’s refreshing to work on a new storyline for each episode as I get to emote differently and carry out different stunts,” concluded Zul.
Tune in to Kaber Hero Kaber Zero today at 9pm on TV3.
