The young guns of CSI: NY
|
Carmine Giovinazzo
A serious back injury in college shattered Giovinazzo’s dream of becoming a professional baseball player. But the blonde-haired blue-eyed New York native who now resides in Los Angeles is a perfect fit for the role of Danny Messer on CSI: NY.
Giovinazzo, 31, comes from a long line of family in law enforcement and Messer is a street-smart tough guy with family mob connections. “Being around cops all my life, I get it, you know. I know their attitude. I know how they work. I understand what it’s about,” he says.
“(But) I have had urges to want to be back in New York since I started this show. It does make me miss New York.”
Vanessa Ferlito
Doe-eyed Ferlito, 25, has been fortunate enough to land parts on TV series 24, The Sopranos and Law & Order as well as TV movie Undefeated during the course of her career.

Hill Harper plays the young Chief Medical Examiner Dr Sheldon Hawkes. |
Burn, on the other hand, is a strong, sexy investigator who specialises in skeletal identification and facial reconstruction.
The actress may come from Brooklyn, New York, but she despises rats, the city’s unofficial mascot.
“I grew up in apartments my whole life and they were always around. I don’t like them, you know,” she says cringing.
Hill Harper
With three graduate degrees from Ivy League universities and a Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government, 31-year-old Harper is certainly qualified to play overachiever Dr Sheldon Hawkes, the chief medical examiner in the series.
Raised in Harlem, whiz-kid Hawkes was a board-licensed surgeon by the age of 24. However, the pressure from saving lives became too great so he traded in the operating room for the coroner’s office.
In at least one episode, Hawkes is spotted sleeping comfortably in the morgue. “He’s kind of a recluse,” Harper says of his character. “They have him resting there because he is so dedicated to his work.”

Eddie Cahill plays edgy NYPD cop Detective Don Flack. |
Most people recognise 27-year-old Eddie Cahill from his role on TV series Friends in which he plays Tag Jones, the younger boyfriend of Jennifer Aniston’s character. But in truth, this New Yorker has guest starred in many TV shows such as Charmed, Dawson’s Creek and Sex and the City.
Cahill digs playing CSI: NY’s homicide detective Don Flack, an edgy cop who comes from a long line of police officers, because his character gets some of the funniest lines on the show.
“What I enjoy most about playing Flack is that he has a really quick mouth,” reveals Cahill. “I think that’s a talent that exists in New York City and Flack embodies that.” – By Evelyn Teo
