Kylie to perform in Singapore

Kylie Minogue is one of the biggest selling female pop singers for nearly two decades and she is set to take on an extravagant ‘greatest hits’ show in Singapore in June. JASON CHEAH gets his feather boa ready.

ANOTHER coup by our neighbours over the causeway sees Aussie pop superstar Kylie Minogue set to make a glamorous appearance for a one-night concert at the Singapore National Stadium on June 17.

Complete with costumes created by esteemed fashion designers such as John Galliano, a stage that lights up like a spaceship, her own band and dancers drilled by top choreographers, Minogue brings Showgirl – The Greatest Hits Tour to fans near and far.

From glamorous diva, pop icon, indie crossovers, superstar collaborations (remember Jason Donovan to Nick Cave to Robbie Williams), she’s done it all – and this Kylie tour promises the works.

Kylie Minogue will be performing in Singapore on June 17 as part of her Showgirl world tour.
After an international singing career of some 18 years, not to mention an acting career as a child star since the age of 11, Kylie has practically attracted a fan-base that has crossed generations. In those teenage days she’s been in such popular TV soaps as The Sullivans and most prominently Neighbours.

In the pop arena, she has 12 albums to show (nine full studio efforts) since the debut eponymous album in 1988. With 29 British Top 10 hits (and counting), including numerous chart toppers and not to mention smash hits all across the globe, you can definitely prepare for a glorious night out in Singapore in June.

What can we expect from Minogue, then?

Australian publication The Australian puts it this way: “Much of Minogue’s success since she left Neighbours has been based on reinvention.”

Her latest single Giving You Up hit the Top 10 in the British singles chart early this month and there are practically no signs of this 36-year-old singer slowing down.

From the late 1980s Stock, Aitken and Waterman pop fodder on I Should be So Lucky, Better The Devil You Know, Locomotion, and the duet with fellow Aussie/former TV soap colleague Jason Donovan on Especially for You, she moved to the 1990s pop of What Do I Have To Do and Confide in Me. You bought the albums; you know the tunes.

For Minogue, the past decade saw some brave moves towards indie leanings with Some Kind of Bliss and the murder ballad Where The Wild Roses Grow (with Nick Cave) before morphing to the pop disco house of Spinning Around, Can’t Get You Out of My Head and On A Night Like This, while recording a duet with Brit superstar Robbie Williams (Kids).

Today, she’s even turning back to 1980s new wave electro-pop with recent hits like Giving You Up and Slow.

For the show in Singapore (there’s also a Hong Kong date penned in her tour calendar for this region), the seating will be configured across the stadium so it will have an intimate atmosphere. Prepare yourself for a mind-blowing visual extravaganza and Minogue singing all her hits – an experience sure to leave everyone wanting more.
