Keeping the faith alive in Bo Bice

By BUGS ONLINE

It was a strange week what with AC Milan losing out to Liverpool in a penalty shoot-out, and the incredible Bo Bice being knocked into second place by the lacklustre Carrie Underwood.

Oh, but we musn’t diss the competition, Bo wouldn’t like that, would he? There’s no need for rudeness, as far as this Southern rocker goes. Ever the courteous and polite rocker, Bo accepted his defeat with style and even called on the audience at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles last Wednesday to applaud the winner of American Idol Season 4.

So the bugs have decided that these things happen – it’s not always the best man who wins, voters are gullible fools, success is made up of 10% inspiration and 90% being blonde and buxom, etcetera, etcetera.

So what can the Bo fan do?

For one, there’s always the Net to comfort you.

After a couple of Bo interviews, wallpaper downloads and cool pictures to savour, you’re bound to be up and about again, no more whining over his loss of the title of American Idol. After all, he doesn’t really need it.

He’s already got us eating out of his hand – from India to Japan to England, Bo Bice has made his presence very much felt indeed. Don’t believe me? Do a quick Internet search and see for yourself (use keywords like “Bo Bice”, “American Idol” or “Sugar Money” – that’s Bo’s band).

You can join a fanlisting like Bodalicious (http://bo.artificial-soul.net) and hang out and share news with other Bo Bice fans, or just laugh at their (the fans) silly antics (like changing the lyrics of songs which then read Bice Bice Baby)

At The Bice Squad (www.bicesquad.com/ Default.aspx) there’s an interesting BoBoard where fans can post messages; some which are pretty informative.

For instance, someone from San Diego said they heard on the radio that Jim Croce’s wife was so impressed by Bo’s rendition of Croce’s Time in a Bottle earlier this season, that they’ve decided to give him the Jim Croce Honorary Music Award (or something like that). Apparently, the award is presented to an artiste who the Croce family feels does his or her best to continue promoting the kind of music and message of Jim Croce.

There are also neat mini polls where you can vote for things like who will go platinum first (Bo or Carrie...and they ain’t talking hair colour!).

At the official Idol site (www.idolonfox. com), you can learn all sorts of trivial information about Bo, like the fact that he’d like to be blessed with photography talents if he couldn’t sing or that he once fell off the stage during a show or that he likes Italian food and steak and ribs.

There are heaps of photos and videos here to keep you entertained for quite a while. Whatever you do, you MUST check out the jaded journalist interviews with Bo – they will definitely endear you to the man, and even give you some idea of how he’s grown since Idol started.

If you’d like to read some interesting articles – including one on why Bo lost – go to Sirlinksalot (www.sirlinksalot.net/bobice.html) and take your pick.

Interviews like the one on MTV.com will give you a solid idea of what Bo is like. He’s constantly saying things like: “I’m just stoked to be here ... It’s all gravy ... this is the bees knees.” Or if you read the story on Everything Alabama.com, you’ll find out that Bice is known in Helena (his hometown) for his commitment to his church, love for his family and, of course, his signature shoulder-length locks.

On the flip side, if you’d like to find out more about Bo’s dark side (yes, sith happens everywhere...and Bo was once caught for cocaine and marijuana possession) go to The Smoking Gun (www.thesmokinggun.com) and read how he “dodged” time by serving a diversion programme (which constitutes drug counselling and attending awareness classes).

For news about Bo Bice and his band Sugar Money, go to their official website (www.sugarmoney.net/index.asp) where you’ll even get to e-mail the Bo man himself. There’s merchandise to purchase here too, including a CD called Recipe for Flavour featuring five songs.

So keep your chin up, and remember that this young man has only just begun his journey. And it’ll all be gravy if we just bolieve.

  • I’m your vehicle baby, I’ll take you anywhere you wanna go...if you know which song these lyrics belong to, you definitely have Bo fever. Tell us all about it at bugzoff@yahoo.com.
