The singer

Harisu: ‘I am very honoured to have been able to work with him (Bjarne Wong).’
POSSESSED is Harisu’s first non-Korean film where she plays a real woman. Past roles weaved her transsexuality into the storyline.

“That is why I love this character. When I first met Bjarne (Wong) in July last year, we talked about working together. Two months later, we confirmed our schedule and he created the Lisu character for me,” wrote Harisu in an e-mail interview.

She plays singer Lisu and when she mysteriously disappears, her sister Amber tries to uncover the truth about her disappearance.

Compared to her past film and TV efforts, Possessed has proven to be her most challenging role to date. For the first time, she is wired, suspended upside down and rotated 180 degrees.

“I never thought I would need to do that in a horror film. Of course, there was the two-hour makeup session to make me look ugly and being submerged in water for over six hours.”

Working with Wong was a good experience and Harisu, 31, revealed that they might be working on another project together, possibly an action film.

“I am very honoured to have been able to work with him. There was a scene in which I had to be strung on a wire and someone had to be in front for me to lean on. The only person I allowed to do it was him, as I trusted him.”

As for Chia and the rest of the cast and crew, Harisu said they were all professionals.

“But if you want to see the chemistry between Amber and me, you have to watch the movie. Steve (Yap) was perhaps a little too immersed in his character. There was a scene in which he was carrying me around the dining area and accidentally caused me to bang into one of the corners of the table. The pain was unbearable. Alan (Yun) is cute and likes to tease me.

Harisu, who sings the theme song for Possessed, said her dialogue in Korean. It will be dubbed into Cantonese and Mandarin.

“Bjarne wanted me to be at my most natural. So he had me speak in Korean. I hope when audiences watch the movie, they will focus on my acting skills rather than who I am.”

While horror movies are not Harisu’s cup of tea – preferring romantic films –she disclosed that after her experience on Possessed, she thinks she will enjoy them after this. And already she has her favourite horror movie: Possessed.
