Handing out the Oscars
KING Kong star Naomi Watts of Australia has signed on to hand out an Oscar at this year’s ceremony.
The 37-year-old beauty, whose last screen turn was as the object of the giant ape’s affections in Peter Jackson’s remake of King Kong, was nominated for a best actress Academy Award for 2003’s death-themed drama 21 Grams.

The British-born Australian actress joins a string of celebrity presenters already signed up for today’s 78th Annual Academy Awards show, including her best friend, Australian Oscar winner Nicole Kidman.
Also handing out golden statuettes will be South African Oscar winner Charlize Theron; the star of films such as Monster, Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill, actress Uma Thurman; and double Academy Award winner Tom Hanks.

Also announced as presenters are Crash, Speed and Miss Congeniality actress Sandra Bullock and the 2005 best supporting actor, Oscar winner Morgan Freeman.
Hollywood darling Jennifer Aniston, star of the hit US television show Friends, and starlet Jessica Alba are also confirmed as presenters.
Country music queen Dolly Parton has signed up to perform at the show and will sing her Oscar-nominated original song Travelin’ Thru from the movie Transamerica, the story of a transgender woman’s journey towards a sex change.
Also performing at the March 5 Oscars ceremony in Hollywood will be Kathleen “Bird” York, who will sing In the Deep from the nominated best picture Crash, for which she is nominated for writing the music and lyrics.
Nominations for the Oscars were announced on Jan 31 and the glittering ceremony is set to take place at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre. – AFP
