A glimpse of Aamir
By ZIEMAN
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan was in town for only a day recently for the shoot of the film Fanaa and had just 10 minutes to speak to members of the press. As soon as the actor landed at KLIA airport, the local journalists had already been waiting for his arrival for almost three hours but compared to the members of the press, Aamir would have to go straight to the film’s location, memorise his script and finish his shoot in under 24 hours.
Even though Aamir was racing against the clock, he made it a point to speak to the press.

Even though Aamir Khan was racing against the clock, he gave the press 10 minutes of his time. |
Aamir, who is known for keeping his private life out of the limelight, did not elaborate on his recent second marriage to Kiran Rao, co-producer of the film Lagaan. The wedding ceremony was apparently held at the actor’s home in Pali Hill, Mumbai, last December.
Aamir’s first marriage was to Reena Dutta in 1984. The couple divorced in 2002. They have two young children, Junaid, nine and Aira, four.
The issue of his divorce became the centre of attention back home in India and his recent marriage started a media frenzy but Aamir remains tight lipped about his current marital status.
“I have nothing to say about it ...,” he said, ending the topic altogether.
Aamir is also not one to reveal much about the characters he is portraying on the big screen either. He is set to star in the upcoming Tamil film Ghajini and another film directed by Mani Ratnam.
This is what he had to say about the character Rehan from the film Fanaa.
“It’s unlike any of the characters I have done before. That’s all I’m saying for now. You’ll have to wait and see when the movie’s finished. Actually, I don’t like talking about the characters I’m playing because I don’t think it helps me appreciate the character. The end result is more important,” said the actor who has a reputation for being unfriendly to the media.
Aamir, who gave an outstanding performance in the historical film Mangal Pandey, is one of the few Bollywood actors who shuns award ceremonies. For Aamir, winning an award is not a measurement of success for an artiste or a film.
So it’s not surprising that Aamir is rarely seen at any awards shows be it at home in India or overseas.
“At this age, I’m focusing and stressing on the more important things like family. After working on a film, I’ll take a holiday for one or two months to be with my family and kids. That is what makes me happy,” he said.
Aamir has starred in such films as Mann, Dil, Ishq, Dil Chahta Hai, Ghulam, Mela, Sarfarosh, Lagaan and Akele Hum Akele Tum.
