Classical organ music
This Saturday sees the music of the classical organ take centre stage at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, starting from 10.30am and continuing until 4pm.
Organised as part of the Encounter MPO Education and Outreach Music Appreciation series, leading the ensemble of musicians and participants will be DFP resident organist Marc Rochester. He will be joined by organist Bob Chilcot, members of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the likes of Tan Eng Pin, Leonard Selva and Sham Sunder Binwani.
Visiting organists are welcomed to play the three-manual Klais Pipe Organ and a five-stop chamber organ. Practice time can be booked by contacting Rochester at m_rochester@petronas.com.my. There will also be talks, demonstrations, performances and an exhibition. Admission is RM10 for the public and RM5 for Encounter members.
Rochester will return to perform on the Klais Pipe Organ at 6.30pm. He will present T. J. Crawford’s Toccata in F, Schumann’s Four Sketches (Op.58), Pierne’s Trois Pieces (Op.29), Bach/Vivaldi’s Concerto in A minor and Arro’s Contrasts and Mulet’s Carillon-Sortie.
