Tan: ‘I am still scared when I see Jackie Chan’
KUALA LUMPUR: Miss Chinese International 2003 Rachel Tan Weng Kim has just signed a two-year contract with Jackie Chan International. The artiste management contract will take effect as soon as she gets her first movie deal.

“I’m now going to castings and shoots with directors, and meeting people associated with the Jackie Chan Group, together with actors like Daniel Wu (who is also a signee),” said Tan in a phone interview from Hong Kong, where she is presently based.

“We have to do a lot of networking. I remember Daniel telling me that even he had to wait almost two years (before he got his first movie deal). So I guess things can’t be rushed.”

Now that Tan is signed to the JC Group, she gets to see the action star occasionally.

“I’m still scared when I see Jackie Chan. But he’s usually not around, and when he is, he’s never in for more than three minutes.

“We deal mostly with his personal manager and close friend, Willie Chan, who happens to be a Malaysian. Because of that, we get along well, naturally.”

Tan, who has a master’s degree in Law from Cambridge University, said: “I’m now going for acting classes as well as Mandarin classes in Hong Kong. I speak Cantonese, so language is not a problem for me.”

The former beauty queen will be back in Malaysia on Oct 26 as a guest judge at the grand final of the Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant 2007.

The pageant, to be held at Genting International Showroom, will be broadcast live on Astro’s Wah Lai Toi at 8.30pm.

Tan said that should she decide to practise law, it would involve Hong Kong’s banking or financial industries.
