Soul mates

By AZHARIAH KAMIN

Sazzy Falak and her hubby are also dance partners in reality TV show Sehati Berdansa.

FRIENDLY and a chatterbox. That’s how I remember the petite beauty, Sazzy Falak, from our meeting some nine years ago. Happily married for three years now, she is still the beauty with a big heart.

The 28-year-old and her husband, Nazril Idrus, 35, can be seen strutting their stuff on the dance floor in the third season of reality show Sehati Berdansa on Astro Ria. On Oct 25, Sazzy and Nazril who represented Malaysian Parkinson’s Disease Association, danced to the tune of KRU’s upbeat song Impak Maksima.

Highly active: Sazzy Falak and Nazril Idrus are drawn to activities that promote physical fitness.

Trained by their choreographer Papa J, the couple didn’t disappoint when they came in fourth (out of nine couples).

The following week saw them clinching the top spot. Their performance of Lipps Inc’s disco song Funky Town also broke the show’s record when they received full marks from guest judge superstar Anita Sarawak.

It was obvious that they didn’t have any problem with the rigorous dance moves as they had been practising a lot to build up their stamina.

Both Sazzy and Nazril lead active and healthy lifestyles so it was no surprise that this year they were appointed as the spokespersons for Adidas.

But due to her hectic schedule, Sazzy admitted that she only managed to run twice a week compared to before when she jogged every evening.

“As a celebrity, this is also one of my social responsibilities to encourage my fans to include exercising into their routine,” said Sazzy.

The couple have both been active in sports since they were in school, but have only recently started to take running seriously by participating in marathons.

‘’Nazril and I are both fitness enthusiasts. In August, we took part in the Adidas King of the Road half-marathon (11km) in Shah Alam, Selangor. We will participate in more marathon events in the future,” said Sazzy.

“I’m more of a sprinter while Sazzy’s a long-distance runner. But what is most important for us is the satisfaction of reaching the finishing line together. That’s the most rewarding part, doing things together,” explained Nazril.

Looking back, Sazzy has come a long way since first appearing on several TV commercials when she was 18 years old.

Her first TV co-hosting job was for TV3’s Muzik Muzik 2000, followed by Beat TV.

She made her acting debut in Bernard Chauly’s telemovie Piala Untuk Mama and next was box-office movie Gol & Gincu (also directed by Chauly) which was turned into a TV drama series.

Sazzy won best supporting actress for her role in Gol & Gincu in the 19th Malaysian Film Festival, beating Ida Nerina (Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam 2), Noorkhiriah (Gubra), Chelsia Ng (Salon) and Sharifah Sofea (Gong).

Sazzy will also be appearing in new movie 4 Madu, directed by Professor A. Razak Mohaideen. She is currently hosting Galaksi on TV9 on Fridays. Her other movies were Tipu Kanan, Tipu Kiri and Jin Notti.

“Initially, I was in this line to earn extra pocket money and with my talkative nature, I thought it would be fun.”

“But I only decided to get involved in the industry full-time about four years ago and there’s been no turning back.

“I’m really thankful for all the opportunities that have come my way. To be honest, I never thought that I would be acting especially for TV even though I was involved in theatre a lot when I was growing up,” said Sazzy, who also runs a public relations firm with co-partners Ashraf and Aishah Sinclair.

Catch Sazzy and Nazril on Sehati Berdansa on Astro Ria (Astro channel 104) on Saturdays at 9pm and Sazzy on Galaksi on TV9 on Fridays at 9pm.
