Red FM Breakfast Show's delightful duo

By SHAMALA VELU

Let JD and Dilly perk you up on Red FM Breakfast Show.

Who says you can’t earn good money by just listening to the radio? Radio station Red FM, for one, is giving out RM50,000 in its contest Four Play.

Indeed, there are lots of exciting things happening on the station, but this contest is the one everyone is waiting for. All you need to do is listen out for four songs that will be played throughout the day.

Superb chemistry: Deejays JD and Dilly have lots in common and are highly excited about Four Play on the air waves.

The songs are Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing, The Police’s Every Breath You Take, Daniel Powter’s Bad Day and LeAnn Rimes’ Can’t Fight the Moonlight. They can be played anytime throughout the day from 6am to 1am (the next day).

“Tune in and when you hear the mentioned songs, send an SMS quickly because if you don’t get through within the first 15 to 20 minutes, you will miss your chance of winning the money,” says JD, who co-hosts Red FM Breakfast Show with Dilly (Adila Shakir).

“It’s going to be really exciting. We’re playing songs that everyone loves and they can win lots of cash too by just listening in,” he says with a smile.

Over the four weeks (from today till March 15), listeners who catches one song from the list will stand to win RM250. For two songs, the prize is RM500; for three songs it is RM1,000 and four songs, RM2,500.

The quick-witted duo of JD and Dilly kick-start the day with all sorts of entertainment – from brainteasers to fun facts and casual talk, but they say Four Play is something they are really excited about.

I’m sure we’re going to get a lot of response for this one,” JD says.

Red FM Breakfast Show featuring Dilly and JD started last December, and since then, ratings have been steadily going up.

“It doesn’t come as a surprise. Not only is the content great, the show has great people like me!” says JD who hails from Ipoh, Perak.

The 30-year-old, who has worked with other deejays on the show (Will Quah and Nisha), says he is always having lots of fun on the morning show.

“With Dilly, I’m really comfortable and I guess it’s because we have a lot in common,” says JD, who used to host the Red Evening Drive with Dilly.

Both deejays are extremely critical of their work, thinking up ideas to spice up the show.

“I attribute the success of this show not only to the great on-air chemistry between JD and Dilly, but also to the interesting segments on the show,” says producer Audrey Raj.

Audrey says her job is made easier because the duo start off the show with great enthusiasm, despite it being early in the morning at six.

“At this hour, people just want something light and easy to listen to. That’s why we start off with something inspiring and talk about all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff,” says JD.

Red FM Breakfast Show starts off with Today in History that talks about the unusual celebrations that take place on that day.

“It really has nothing to do with history,” explains Dilly. “We talk about how Christmas is celebrated in Armenia, for instance”.

Next on at 6.30am is MiTunes. “This is where listeners can make requests for their wake-me-up songs. Listeners can also visit the website and fill in their personal details and request four songs,” she adds.

The show continues with Sleaze (7am-8am), a segment where the DJs talk about celebrities and who’s doing what with whom and so on.

“We provide you with some early morning entertainment gossip in the 7 o’clock hour,” elaborates Dilly.

The Big Red Hard One is a brainteaser where a riddle is posed and the listeners will have to think out of the box to get the answer.

Next up is Word-U (8am-9am) where the phones keep ringing.

Says Dilly: “We play an audio-clip of a celebrity. Listeners have to identify the person and take home cash when they give the correct answer.”

The prize money will snowball if no one gets it right for the day.

So, if you need some entertainment while stuck in traffic congestion, tune into the Red FM Breakfast Show ... and check out Four Play if you need some extra cash.
