Heart of Greed wins at Astro Wah Lai Toi Drama Awards 2008

Heart of Greed, which is about a family feud, swept up a whopping nine awards at the Astro Wah Lai Toi Drama Awards 2008.
Crowd favourite Heart of Greed garnered nine awards at the Astro Wah Lai Toi (WLT) Drama Awards 2008, breaking the previous record of eight awards won by War and Beauty in 2005.
Over 6,000 people thronged the star-studded event at the Arena of Stars at Genting Highlands to see their favourite Hong Kong drama stars last Saturday.
Linda Chung and Raymond, voted Favourite Couple for their roles in Heart of Greed, at the Astro Wah Lai Toi Awards 2008 at Genting Highlands. Jessica Hsuan, Joe Ma, Shirley Yeung, Ron Ng, Linda Chung, Myolie Wu, Susanna Kwan, Moses Chan, Louise Lee, Bosco Wong, Tavia Yeung, Hui Shiu Hong and Lo Koon Lan were among the stars who graced the event.
Fans could not hold back their excitement and screamed their lungs out when they saw their idols on the red carpet.
The crowd went into a frenzy when dashing Lam, Moses, Wong and Ng appeared while cameras clicked away when gorgeous Chung, Wu, Shirley and Tavia sashayed down the red carpet. Ma and Hsuan looked stunning dressed in black.
Natalis Chan and Angel Wong reprised their roles as emcees for the night and this time around, they were joined by Lynn Lim and Vivian Tok, who co-host the popular talk show Ladies Sdn Bhd (Astro Wah Lai Toi) together with Wong.
With the hilarious Natalis and the three chatty female hosts, it was set to be an exciting event.
Moses and Lee, who played mother and son in Heart of Greed, won the favourite leading actor and actress awards.
Lee was choked with emotion when she received her award.
“This is my first time at the WLT Drama Awards and when I received the Unforgettable Moment award, I thought that would be the only award I’d be receiving.
“My hands trembled and I felt like crying when I won again in the favourite leading actress category. I sincerely thank all of you for the support,” she said.
“This character has won me two awards (in Hong Kong) and I didn’t expect it to win me another two here in Malaysia,” Moses said, thanking all those who supported him.
The biggest winner was Lam who walked away with three awards for the night.
Hong Kong singer-actor Bosco Wong charming the fans with his performance. He won an award for Favourite Character for his role as Lui To in Price of Greed. Wu’s hard work piling on weight for her role as the curvy Tina Ho in To Grow with Love paid off when she won the Favourite Bizarre Character award. The now-slim actress expressed her dread in watching that clip.
“Please don’t show that clip again, it’s so horrible, I’m afraid that the kids watching this programme now may be crying in fear,” she said with a shudder.
As expected, Heart of Greed’s theme song sung by Kwan was voted the favourite and she gave a captivating rendition.
By the end of the night, the Favourite Drama award was a no-brainer. Fans were screaming – Heart of Greed – even before the result was announced.
“I can’t believe that after three to four years, we are still winning awards for Heart of Greed, thank you so much,” said Lee.
Fans lapped up the performances of Wong, Chung, and Lam who are both actors as well as singers.
Astro Star Quest 2008 top five winners Gan Wan Chean, Debbie Lim, Choo Hou Ren, Danny Koo and Natalie Chong sung the nominated songs for the Favourite Theme Song category.
