Eddie Jordan makes tracks

IN conjunction with the Malaysia Grand Prix this weekend, Hard Rock Café Kuala Lumpur presents motor racing mogul Eddie Jordan with his band, Eddie and The Robbers, tomorrow and Saturday at 11pm. Jordan, the man behind the renowned Jordan Formula One team, has swapped his life on the track and is now the man behind the drums with his band.
He is ably accompanied by the Robbers, with Jonathan Perkins on keyboards, Pete Noone on bass and Matt Exelby on guitar. They have recorded and toured worldwide, playing alongside artistes such as Brian May, Joe Elliott, Mike Rutherford, Nick Mason, The Pretenders and Bob Geldof.
Their performance promises a rocking and enjoyable evening with hard edged rock ‘n’ roll as well as Jordan’s wit and energy.

· AUSTRALIA month @ KLPac has more to offer theatre enthusiasts. There will be the Malaysian premiere of sensuous contemporary dance work Rasa Unmasked from April 7 till 12. The show brings together the best talents from across the shores – Ramli Ibrahim of Sutra Dance Theatre, Australia’s Anandavalli of Lingalayam Dance Company and ethnomusicologist / composer Alex Dea. The gala premiere of the show that sheds new light on India’s most vital aesthetic theory will be on April 7 and is by invitation only. Rasa Unmasked will be staged at Pentas 1, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac), Sentral Park, Jalan Strachan off Jalan Ipoh, KL. Showtime is 8.30pm and tickets are priced at RM50, RM30 and RM20.
Another highlight is a stage adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s short story The Diary of a Madman. The riveting play is a result of an electrifying collaboration between director Joe Hasham and actor Will Gluth, and will be set in modern day Canberra. Dates: April 9 to 11 at 8.30pm; April 12 at 3pm. Venue: Pentas 2, KLPac. Ticket price: RM30 and RM15 (students, senior citizens and the disabled).
For those interested in workshops, you can check out From the Page and onto the Floor, which is a Shakespearean workshop conducted by Jeff Kevin targeted at theatre practitioners, both professionals and amateurs. The workshop aims to provide a platform for each performer to develop their own personal way of playing Shakespearean roles while respecting the rules and techniques that are necessary for performance.
Works that will be explored include Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, Macbeth and As You Like It. Designed to extend each participant’s theoretical knowledge and performance abilities, the workshop will culminate in a public showcase (April 24 and 25) put together by the participants for students from Malaysian schools, colleges and universities.

· HELP University College and Instituto Cervantes de Kuala Lumpur present the Spanish Festival 2009 in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in Malaysia.
Five Spanish movies will be screened from April 3 to 5 at Lower Foyer, HELP University College, BZ-2 Pusat Bandar Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. They are Bajo Las Estrellas (Under the Stars) on April 3 (8pm) and April 4 (6pm); Sin Verguenza (No Shame) on April 4 (4pm); La Ardilla Roja (The Red Squirrel) on April 5 (4pm) and La Caja (The Wooden Box) on April 5 (6pm). · ASTRO is looking for fresh talents in its talent scouting campaign Anak Wayang. The five characters to be filled are a nurse, mechanic, event organiser, gangster and secretary for the drama, Kecuali Cintamu, which will be aired on Astro RIA next month. Those interested can attend the auditions: April 5 and 6: Grand Paragon Hotel, Johor Baru, Johor; April 11 and 12: Bayview Hotel, Penang; April 18 and 19: Shah Alam City Centre, Shah Alam, Selangor.
The auditions, which begin at 9am, are open to all Malaysians aged between 18 and 35 who are not bound by any contract with any drama production house or artiste manager. Candidates should bring along a photocopy of your IC and two 4R pictures (profile picture and waist level) and impress the judges with your spontaneous acting skill.
· ALEXIS Bistro presents Los Angeles performer Joye Carter who demonstrates exceptional skills with the ability to perform all genres of music such as jazz, rock, R&B and hip hop, as well as songwriting.
