Double treat
Fei Yu Ching will entertain fans with evergreen hits and contemporary tunes this weekend.
TAIWANESE crooner Fei Yu Ching shows why he has mesmerised fans for over 30 years with his willingness to experiment with innovation and technological advances, whether in his music or performances.
Contemporary: Fei Yu Ching is open to adding a fresh look to his shows.
Apart from working with some of the Chinese music industry’s hottest young acts in making contemporary music, Fei is also open to adding a fresh look to his own shows.
“In my recent shows in Taiwan, I experimented with 3D animation on stage and it added a different dimension to my performances,” Fei said in a telephone interview from Taiwan.
The award-winning singer will be performing for the fourth time in Genting this weekend.
Having visited Malaysia several times, he has often professed his love for Malaysian homes and the local cuisine.
“I once asked what it would take to acquire permanent residence in Malaysia. Someone told me that all I had to do was marry a local girl!” he quipped.
The 53-year-old balladeer is known for his countless hits, including Wan An Qu (Good Night Song) and Yi Jian Mei (A Spray Of Plum Blossoms) as well as the more contemporary Jay Chou tunes – Qian Li Zi Wai (Faraway, a 2006 duet with Chou) and Ju Hua Tai (Chrysanthemum Terrace, Chou’s theme for the Zhang Yimou-helmed film Curse Of The Golden Flower).
“I’ll be singing not only my own songs but tunes made popular by other singers. Many music fans like to listen to zhong guo feng (ethnic Chinese-flavoured) songs like contemporary tunes by Jay Chou and Vincent Fang.
Born Chang Yen Ting, Fei has an older brother named Chang Fei who is a famous musician and media personality in Taiwan.
Would his brother be joining him on stage as a guest artiste? “I would love to have him with me. But to get him to travel overseas is not an easy thing to do. In addition to his phobia of flying, his packed hosting schedule makes it difficult.”
