Make way for Radio Oprah
Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey has set her sights on another medium - radio.
The Oprah and Friends radio channel on XM Satellite Radio was introduced Monday morning in the United States, the Associated Press reports.
O&F will broadcast 24 hours a day. Among the personalities involved, besides Oprah herself, are her best friend Gayle King, fitness guru Bob Greene and poet Maya Angelou.
Actresses Annette Benning and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, tycoon Donald Trump and rocker Jon Bon Jovi are among the guests lined up for the channel's various programmes over the next few weeks.
The channel will cover such topics as relationships, showbiz, gossip and spirituality. It was launched as part of a three-year, US$55mil deal Winfrey signed with XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc in February.
The satellite radio operator has about 7 million subscribers.
